ADA Awareness Presented by Bob Clegg, City Engineer for City of Port Huron. Mr. Clegg will present the City of Port Huron’s response to a 2008 court case filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern Michigan District. The City’s preliminary cost estimate to address the concerns raised in this complaint was approximately $6,000,000. The court issued a “Consent Decree and Settlement Among the Defendant City of Port Huron and Plaintiffs” that requires a commitment to expend $300,000 over a five year period making improvements to ADA ramps throughout the City. The City is now three years into the Consent Decree. Mr. Clegg will explain how Port Huron reached this settlement and what they have learned about providing ADA access in the right-of-way.
